Blow me down
Spent all day up in the condo minus two voyages down in the wind. One was to check on the van, they had a few cars get windows busted out by the high winds. Hopefully tomorrow the conditions will begin to improve. The Internet here has been down since this morning, thank goodness for my iPhone. A phone camera shot through the patio door covered I’m rain, you can see railing then the surf.
Miss Dolly
It just so happens that our trip to the coast has an unexpected visitor. Hurricane Dolly is just off the very south coast of Texas about 300 miles or so from us but the storm surge here is unreal. If I knew how to surf and had a board, I could hang ten on these babies (although this photo doesn’t really do them justice, I’d say 6-8ft swells) -
We tried to hit the beach but the surge is actually reaching all the way to the dunes and the wind is whipping up sand and salt creating a haze and putting a nice fine film over everything. Z Man couldn’t hold onto the body board without it blowing away so we retreated quite quickly to the pool and swam for just a bit.

See isn’t he cute??? We are keeping an eye on the storm and the condo closed the hurricane shutters on our patio until Thursday (although others are open) so we don’t have much of a view, actually no view at all. We’ll have fun and I’m sure there will be lots of fun things to do!!!
Der Bahn
Today we spent 45 minutes in a line to ride a 1 minute ride. No seriously. It was one of the only rides we could all four go on but we had no idea it was so short. It was worth it though because Casey J said it was “Awesome”. He used that word a lot today when he was having a good time. We spent a lot of time in the “warmer” kiddie pools which gave me horrible flash backs to when I spent one summer actually working at Schlitterbahn. I recall pretending not to notice the floater while some other poor soul of a lifeguard had to go find the bright orange “hazard” bag, but that’s another story for another time.
The boys had a blast and we ate our lunch we had taken into the park (note – an icebox with WHEELS on it would be some pretty sweet property to own when walking miles from the parking to the entrance then down the steps, many steps to the picnic grounds) and even took the tram across to the other half of the park. When I used to work there I remember just making sure kids weren’t drowning, now I’m not worried really about that but just keeping an eye on them. I still have panic attacks when the boys are out of my eye sight for more than a few minutes.
Z Man is going to get some more cash from the Tooth Fairy tonight. We were standing in line to go on a tube ride and he smiled at me when I noticed his tooth hanging by a thread. After doing the shudder I asked him if his tooth was ready to fall out and he immediately grabbed hold of that puppy and pulled it right out. Then he handed it to me. Again without a tissue or something to put it in, but this time I really had nothing to put it in. I ended up being able to put it in my swimsuit shorts and keep a hand on it and the other hand on his tube during the ride. We made it to the bottom with the tooth still in my shorts where we transferred it to a secret container in the ice box. Oh parenting is just full of surprises..
Tomorrow we head to SA for more fun.
Busy Bees
We’ll be spending our Friday night and Saturday in San Antonio at the annual (well pretty much annual) Seitz family reunion. We’ll be staying in the downtown area where I took this photo last weekend on a quick photo trip there. I also shot at the newly re-opened Japanese Tea Gardens and although they were nice it hardly seemed worth $1.6 million to me. Next Tuesday the boys and I will head down to the coast and stay at the same condo I stayed at every summer when I was a kid until Friday. They are going to have so much fun there! We are going to have a great time at Schlitterbahn tomorrow so I think we’ll be worn out at the end of July! I have a techie update I’ll get posted soon and you may be shocked by it. In honor of the busy bees we are this month enjoy:
